I’ve been setting the DVR to record a lot of Christmas movies and somehow Twist of Faith was recorded, which isn’t a Christmas movie. God makes me smile with His way of finding unique ways to touch my heart.
In the movie, Jacob Fisher an Orthodox Jewish Cantor and amateur songwriter who resides in Brooklyn, New York, witnesses the senseless murder of his wife and three children. Catatonic, Jacob walks out on his Jewish mourning ritual, leaving behind his Jewish garments, wallet and keys. Abandoning his identity, he wanders aimlessly, hoping somehow to understand his tragedy. He arrives in Brent, Alabama, where he is embraced by Nina, a single mother and the lead singer of a small gospel choir, her Uncle Moe and their gospel community who help his return to life while music brings Nina and Jacob together as they try to make sense of his past and their possible future.
The deep emotions of grief and loss are so real in this movie, but it was the music that got me. Especially the song This Very Moment. The lyrics mostly hold so true for me. I cross out mostly because when they sing:
God has a blessing he’s sending my way
I just know it, he believes in me
And I believe in you
I don’t feel it. Life is hard right now. Grief aside, life is so hard and I can’t see the blessings coming our way, BUT I know that God promises us abundant blessings and it is those promises that I cling to with all my life.
The desperation in this prayer/song are so real. It’s as though they came from my heart.
Please help me to find
Find my way, find my way home
Cause I can’t do this alone
Please, please talk to me
Help me through, show me what to do
To get closer to you
God has a blessing he’s sending my way
I just know it, he believes in me
And I believe in you
Hear me Father, Father, Father, heavenly Father!
Hear my pray lord!
God has a blessing he’s sending my way
I just know it, all I gotta do is believe in him, he believes in me
I believe in you
This very moment, I feel it
God has a blessing he’s sending my way
I just know it, he believes in me
And I believe in you
Hugs. I get it. Thinking of you.
