Ruth 2:14-23
1. Last week we explored possible reasons why Boaz was being so kind to Ruth. In today’s story what additional clues might we find as to why Boaz continues to single Ruth out with his kindness?
2. Why do you think Ruth, in verse 20, adds the comment, “as well as to your dead husband”?
3. Verse 20 talks about “family redeemers”. Does anyone have any commentary notes in their Bible that might help us better understand what a family redeemer is? Tip: The nearest male relative, was to help extended family who fell into economic difficulty.
4. How did this system raise or lower the importance of making good financial decisions?
5. How do you think accountability played into the family redeemer relationship.

In today's story what additional clues might we find as to why Boaz continues to single Ruth out with his kindness?Through his obligation as kinsman-redeemer, he must reach out to her and help her and Naomi in their time of need, but his kindness seems to be more than just out of legal obligation. He seems to have a true servants heart.2. Why do you think Ruth, in verse 20, adds the comment, “as well as to your dead husband”?(I think there was a mix-up when this question was written, in verse 20, it is Naomi speaking to Ruth. I apologize for not checking this. I am completing the study as it is being completed as well).3. Verse 20 talks about “family redeemers”. Does anyone have any commentary notes in their Bible that might help us better understand what a family redeemer is? Tip: The nearest male relative, was to help extended family who fell into economic difficulty.I guess I was ahead of the game yesterday when I did a bit of research on this. What I found is that a kinsman-redeemer is when a person’s relative pays a debt that the person is unable to pay. Jesus is called our kinsman redeemer, because He came to the earth in the form of a man (therefore \”related\” to us). He paid the price for our debt of sin, which we could not pay. All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. In other words, we are all sinners and have not been able to take hold of God’s glory. Jesus, being without sin, died in our place to redeem us from our sin and ultimately hell. We aren't a recipient of His payment until we are saved. The book of Ruth reveals an account of a kinsman redeemer on the physical level.4. How did this system raise or lower the importance of making good financial decisions?I think this system raised the importance of making good financial decisions because you always had to be ready to provide assistance to a relative in need. 5. How do you think accountability played into the family redeemer relationship.My understanding is that this was part of the laws that are laid out in the Old Testament (Pentateuch-the first five books of the Bible). Following of the laws was essential in those days.
