Heart and Healing
Ruth 2:1-13
1. How do you know if the kindness you give to others has selfish strings attached? In other
words, how do you know if you are being kind to get something from the other person?
2. When did you miss an opportunity to show authentic kindness to someone?
3. When others have been kind to you, how do you go about passing on the kindness you receive
to others?
4. What kind of things keep you from initiating kindness to others?
5. This next week who is someone that you can go beyond what would be expected and show
exceptional kindness? What do you have in mind?
6. What is a lesson, a promise, a command, or a warning that you needed to hear
from this story?
Remember, kindness with no strings attached, will come back to you

Hi there! I hope you have had a good weekend. I've been feeling a bit under the weather, so when I haven't been under the covers, I've been pushing myself to get out of the house with the family, so I didn't take the time to answer these questions. Better late than never, right? We did have a fun time together exploring a park new to us as well as the Story Book Gardens with the kids. They had a fabulous time, even though it rained and they were soaked by the time we left. Great memory making. I hope you too had a chance to make memories this weekend.Heart and HealingRuth 2:1-131. How do you know if the kindness you give to others has selfish strings attached? In otherwords, how do you know if you are being kind to get something from the other person?I find that if I am thinking thoughts such as 'we should help so and so because we may need their help in the future' or 'they did this and this for us, so we SHOULD do this', my thoughts aren't simply about being kind. Thankfully these thoughts don't come along often. Usually just if we feel over tired or spread thin.2. When did you miss an opportunity to show authentic kindness to someone?I am sure there has been a time, but I can't think of a specific example. I think my fault is in the fact that I am introverted so I don't put myself out there very often, giving myself opportunity to show kindness. I have to really work on this, consciously.3. When others have been kind to you, how do you go about passing on the kindness you receiveto others? One example I can think of, is when someone pays for my Tim Horton's order in front of me. The next time, I always do the same for the person in front of me. It's such a simple thing, but there have been a few times where that small act of kindess from a stranger was JUST the thing I needed on a hard day.4. What kind of things keep you from initiating kindness to others? The kindness of others motivates me, but also the little eyes that watch me every day. Teaching my children to be kind to others is very important to us.5. This next week who is someone that you can go beyond what would be expected and showexceptional kindness? What do you have in mind?I think of our landlord who lives upstairs. We have gone upstairs to ring her doorbell three times. Each time we are met with the look of 'Oh, oh, what now?\”, but each time it has been to either bring her mail, the rent cheque, or a bag of fresh baked buns. Perhaps she needs more random acts of kindness. Maybe we will make her and her daughter cookies this week. The kids can help with that and it would be fun.6. What is a lesson, a promise, a command, or a warning that you needed to hearfrom this story? My husband has the heart of a servant, just like Boaz. I am more skeptical and air on the safe side of things. I am continually learning from him to take the time, stop hurrying, and just do those random acts of kindness for those around us in every day life. He does it so easily. I have to really think about it.
